Seattle Washington (MPN) - According to several reports, The Owners of the NBA's Sacramento Kings are reportedly in talks to sell the organization to Seattle Investor, Chris Hansen who is currently seeking to buy and NBA Franchise and bring them to the City of Seattle. Last year, Hansen and a group of investors which includes Microsoft's Steve Ballmer and the Nordstrom family announced their intentions to build a state-of-the-art facility in the neighborhood of SoDo which is located near the stadiums that house the Seahawks as well as the Mariners who have publicly announced their opposition to the project. The hype began last night when the daughter of a well-known agent tweeted that a deal had been reached to sell the Team to Hansen's group. This immediately caused a firestorm of tweets and rumor spreading throughout the day. Some reports however offered conflicting conclusions including one from Sacramento's CBS affilate which reported that the Maloofs rejected a 500 million dollar agreement to sell the team. Also, A spokesman for the Maloofs issued a statement which said the following:
“The rumors regarding the team being sold are simply not true."
He later went to add on this
"As we have said for nearly a year, we have been contacted by several cities and parties interested in the Sacramento Kings organization. The announcement yesterday from Virginia Beach does not change our long-held position that we will not comment on rumors or speculation about the franchise.”
Sacramento Mayor, Kevin Johnson held a press conference this afternoon saying that he will try to find local investor who would be willing to keep the team in Sacramento. he also went on to say that the city of sacramento deserves an NBA franchise and says that the city has a "fighting spirit" as well as a loyal and passionate fan-base who attend every game.
The Deadline to file for relocation is on Friday March 1. If a deal is too be struck, it has to be done before this date to ensure that a team will return to Seattle in time for the 2013-2014 NBA Season.
The Kings have been in Sacramento since 1985 and have relocated five times since their establishment in 1945 as the Rochester Royals.
